About the Vice President for Research and Development

Professor Tsung-Hsien Lin became the Vice President for Research and Development at National Sun Yat-sen University in August, 2024. He is responsible for managing academic and innovative research activities.

Vice President Lin earned his Ph.D. from the Institute of Electro-Optical Science and Engineering, National Cheng Kung University in 2006.  His specialties include Liquid crystal materials, Optics, and Photonics devices. His current research focuses on Smart window, Reconfigurable intelligent surface, and Optical computing.

He joined the Department of Photonics at NSYSU in 2007 and as its Chairman from 2018 to 2021. He is a distinguished scholar, having received many significant honors and awards. Among them, the most remarkable are the Ta-You Wu Memorial Award in 2013 and the Outstanding Research Award from the National Science and Technology Council in 2018 and 2023. Winning the Outstanding Research Award twice is a rare privilege in the academic community.

His list of accolades is extensive, here are some notable examples: the Photonic Technology Contribution Award from the Taiwan Photonics Society in 2022, the Ministry of Economic Affairs Startup Business Award in 2020, CES Innovation Award in 2019, the 15th National Innovation Award in 2018, and LITE-ON Gold Innovation Award in 2018.
